Coach Alex Lalaoui (seen in photo with Dan Sico from the METS Charter School), packed up two truckloads of donations this morning and dropped them off at the Jersey City City Hall to benefit the victims of the Easter Sunday fire in Jersey City.  “We’ve seen a tremendous show of generosity from our Soccer Learning Center families as well as members of the Jersey City community and beyond,” said Lalaoui.

Donations have come from several individuals as well as families affiliated with the METS Charter School, Infinity Institute and the Dare to Live Youth Group.

The coach and his staff spearheaded an effort to collect clothing, school supplies, and new toys for the 26 children that were impacted by the fire.  “We are working with both the Jersey City Red Cross and the Mayor’s office to provide these families the items they need for their children,” said Lalaoui.  “We’re trying to help these kids as quickly as possible.”

Collection efforts will continue through Sunday at the soccer academy gym located at 180 9th Street in downtown Jersey City.

April 12th Collection Update:  Because of the incredible and generous response from the community, the Mayor’s Office has stopped collecting clothing and items for the 4/8 fire victims.  They now ask that donation efforts  be concentrated upon gift cards for the children impacted by the fire.   Gift cards to retailers like Target, Toys R Us, or ShopRite can still be dropped off to Coach Alex Lalaoui at 180 9th Street, Jersey City, NJ (across from the Newport Mall).

The following clothing items are needed as well as school supplies and new toys:
