The championship Jersey City Fire Department lost a close game to the newly established and formidable Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) soccer team.  The reigning Jersey City soccer powerhouse put up a tough battle during Sunday night’s match which ended up in a 2 to 1 finish.

The first goal of the night was scored by ICE’s Ken Genalo (#14) in the first half.  The JCFD answered back in the second half when James Pappas (#2) tied the game, 1 to 1.  The action was high, with multiple scoring opportunities from both sides all through the tough match, including a beautiful shot by JCFD’s Brian Finnerty (#9) which slammed into the crossbars.

With seconds to go until the end of the match, the game took a dramatic turn concluding with the winning goal by ICE’s Scott Cunningham (#13).  Truly great sportsmanship from both sides.

Next week:  Reminder – there is no soccer next Sunday due to the Memorial Day holiday.  Rest up and enjoy!
